Terms of service
Last updated 21 September 2026
Who these terms are between
They are between you and The Gentleman Agreement, the service at thegentlemanagreement.com. They apply whether you sign a document here, or use the service to ask other people to sign one.
Signing a document
To sign here you must be 18 or over, show a government photo ID, and pass a camera check that the face is live and the same one. Typing your full legal name and confirming the date is your signature, and it is intended to bind you exactly as a signature on paper would.
Somebody under 18 does not sign here. A parent or guardian signs for them, says so during the ceremony, and the record says the person signed for was not identity-checked.
Asking for signatures
Accounts are reviewed by a person before anything they raise reaches a signer. We may refuse or block an account that sends documents to people who did not expect them, that misrepresents who is asking, or that uses the service against the law. Blocking stops new mail and revokes API keys; it never alters anything already signed.
What you send is yours. You are responsible for having the right to send it, for what it says, and for the addresses you send it to.
What it costs, and how it is paid
One dollar a signature unless a plan or an agreement says otherwise. Payments are taken by Stripe; we never see a card number. Credit bought in advance does not expire and is not refunded in cash. A plan runs month to month and can be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the month already paid for.
What we do not promise
We keep the service available and the evidence intact, but we do not promise it is never interrupted. We are not a law firm: whether a particular signature satisfies a particular law is a question for your own advisers. Except where the law does not allow it to be limited, our liability for any claim is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose.
Ending it
You may close your account at any time by writing to us. Signatures already made stay where they are, because they are evidence, and evidence does not stop being true because an account closed.
Changes
When these terms change, the date above changes with them. Continuing to use the service after that is how a change is accepted.
